beautiful mess
One of the things I marvel at most since becoming a parent is how easily happiness can be found in the most simplest of things.
Pure delight for Matilda from only a container of water, and access to that far-too-tempting garden dirt... an equal measure of entertainment for us adults observing.
After splashing about in the clean water for a few minutes, so began the cautious transfer of dirt and stones from the garden bed - back and forth she went, each 'ingredient' carefully considered.
All the while she chattered away to herself, occasionally throwing her arms in the air with enthusiasm - obviously very pleased with herself at the masterpiece in creation.
The sweetest thing about Toddlers I think is there intense curiosity - they study each new object, texture or living thing with such fascination and appreciation...it's beautiful to watch, and a constant reminder that we too should take note of the details.
So I've promised myself and Matilda from now on that I won't be reluctant to offer certain activities based on the amount of washing involved after ward. We will be diving in to a whole heap of beautiful mess each week - finger painting, floury cookie baking and no doubt many more mud pies on the menu very soon.
